The word "encantado" [enchanted], from the Latin incantatus, means something that has been the object of enchantment or spell. In Brazil, it has yet another meaning: it refers to entities that belong to modes of perception of the Afro-Indigenous world. The "encantados”, driven by unknown forces, travel between heaven and earth, passing through jungles, rocks, fresh and salt waters, dunes... transforming them into sacred places. But the systematic destruction of forests, rivers and seas also impacts the existence of the “encantados”. How can we “enchant” our fears and get closer to each other? In troubled times, Lia Rodrigues asked herself how we could "enchant our fears" to recreate a collective dynamic and bring people together. The answer is Encantado, a mesmerising choreography for 11 performers and many fabrics, in which these forces, like the "encantados", travel through the bodies on stage. Encantado is dedicated to Olivier. — Lia Rodrigues / Companhia de Danças
