BiT is Maguy Marin’s 49th show in a career that has spanned over 40 years.
Obsessively, the dancers – individuals belonging to a society of disparate emotions – surrender to movements without stopping, creating a dance that is both collective and individual, two intertwined aspects that are never clearly distinguished. Rhythms become ritual-like, not forgotten in time, reminiscent of traditional dances and ancestral rituals, some of them macabre. A constant movement leading to physical and mental strain, creating dance’s dominance over individual lives (could this be the metaphor by which to analyse modern society more effectively?). One fact we are certain of: BiT takes us to the depths of our humanity and questions our individual responsibilities in our current collective agitation.
