After several pieces for a large number of performers playing with excess, agitation and chaos, in this deeply pared back solo, Boris Charmatz has now created “a return to the self” based on two personal experiences. The first of these is the drowsiness you feel just before you go to sleep, the state between being awake and sleeping that marries languor and profound relaxation, jolts, reflex movements and dramatic falls.

Two sensitive states that hang by the thread of the whistler’s breath and the sleeper’s conscious will. By suspending the dance from his lips and the delicate sound emerging from them, Boris Charmatz explores the organic nature of writing movement that is literally embodied in the music.
