The monumental aspects of middens, prehistoric indigenous sites found on Brazilian’s coastline, are the starting point of Vestígios [Traces]. As part of her research, Marta Soares physically immersed herself in prehistoric indigenous burial grounds in the Laguna region, Santa Catarina. By rescuing precolonial ancestral memory, this choreographic installation puts forward a reflexion on the need to bring to the surface the creation and resistance forces in arts and in life that operate through the resonant body. Vestígios is an attempt to render the invisible sensitive, that is to say to render the symbolic and sacred aspects of middens that were lost in time perceptible.
