João Saldanha
João Saldanha is a Brazilian choreographer who funded, in the late 1980’s, the Atelier de Coreografia, a company whose history intersects with the trajectory of contemporary dance in Rio de Janeiro and in Brazil. Known for the fluency of movement of this work, Saldanha’s choreographies resemble an eternal kinetic ride, influenced by the rich special composition remaining from the lines and tension of Oscar Niemeyer’s architecture, in dialogue with the irregularity and abrupt patterns of the geography of this hometown Rio de Janeiro. In February 2022, he participated as a guest in the performance Ce qui nous relie by French choreographer Nathalie Collantes in Paris’ Festival Faits d´Hiver.
