At 66 years of age, and a career of over 40 years, Maguy Marin was born in Toulouse, France, to a family of Spanish refugees. Influenced by the works of Samuel Beckett and a disciple of Béjart, in the 80s Maguy began to produce choreographies in France similar to those created at the same time in Germany by Pina Bausch: a dance theatre revealing our true humanity. She recently won the Golden Lion Award for Lifetime Achievement at the Venice Biennale in Italy.
